Whisking Workshop with Aaron Donne
Aaron Donne will be visiting from Oregon to offer an ancient form of thermic bathing bodywork called whisking. The whisks – made with supple, leafy twigs primarily from oak and birch – are soaked in warm water and used to massage the body. This enriches the skin with essential oils, improves blood circulation, relieves joint pain, and infuses the hot room with a pleasant scent. Once you’ve experienced a whisking you’ll quickly understand the Finnish adage that a sauna without a whisk is like a meal without salt.
Aaron’s love of the sauna began when he was five years old and built ‘heat forts’ over the floor vents in his home. But it wasn’t until he moved to New York City and stepped into the Russian and Turkish Baths that he realized how little he knew about traditional thermic bathing practices. Since then he’s devoted himself to learning about traditions from around the world and is passionate about creating opportunities for others to experience this ancient wellness practice.
